We are pleased to announce our participation in WATERGRID, the Horizon Europe project dedicated to improving climate resilient water management.
Duration: September 2025 – August 2029 (48 Months)
Project budget: € 7 945 771,25
EU contribution: € 7 549 383,13
Consortium: 22 organizations from 13 countries
WATERGRID responds to one of Europe’s most pressing challenges: increasing water-related climate extremes, including droughts, floods, and seasonal water scarcity. The project introduces the Smart Water Grid (SWG) concept. By integrating Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) with advanced digital monitoring, WATERGRID enables catchments to capture, store, and redistribute water more effectively.
Working across eight diverse demonstration sites in 13 countries, the project builds a robust evidence base for operationalizing climate resilience. Our goal is to enhance the natural storage capacity of landscapes, mitigating both flood risks and drought impacts for the benefit of communities, agriculture, and ecosystems. Through this hybrid approach of ecological restoration and digital intelligence, WATERGRID secures water availability in a changing climate.
RCAB at the Slovak University of Agriculture is a leading institution for research in agricultural economics and rural development. In the WATERGRID project, RCAB provides scientific expertise to the Slovak demonstration site, focusing on developing and analyzing nature-based solutions.
